A THERAPY FOR AUTISM

Autism Rehabilitation Therapy is a neurologically based therapy for Autistic and brain injured children. It is a sensory integration therapy based on the plasticity of brain and its ability to create new pathways when new sensory experiences are presented to the central nervous system.

The Therapy evolved over many years of research by Dr Carl Delacato, culminating in publication of his book "The Ultimate Stranger -The Autistic Child" in 1974. Since that time the therapy has been practised in clinics around the world.

The clinic, administered, by David Delacato and Dr Antonio Parisi MD Development Neurologist, three times a year in January, May, and September, is attended, by previous appointment, by parents with neurological dysfunctional individuals.

At the Clinic, children having previously been diagnosed as having Autism or other conditions such as Asperger Syndrome, Landeau-Clefner Syndrome, Pervasive Development Delay, Attention Deficit Disorder, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Dyslexia, Dyspraxia and Cerebral Palsy are assessed for their therapy requirements in a 2 hour session. At the end of which a therapy programme is devised. The therapy, a series of individual exercises based on physiotherapy, occupational therapy and education, each exercise carried out for 1-2 minutes, twice a day, is taught to the parents to administer to their children at home. On average a daily programme lasts for 2 hours.

Families return every 4 months for reassessment and a new programme.
